I'm throwing this out here because I think that comment chain was really abrasive and I don't want to join it. Lemme put in my 2 cents because it's very easy to throw around words like "fetishize" without thinking more deeply about it. Fetishizing is grossly looking at something not inherently sexual and sexualizing it in general. It's not a good thing usually, one exanple of this would be the ways in which yaoi fetishizes gay men, usually for a more straight female audience. This doesn't mean all of it is inherently meant to be fetishizing, it just depends on what people take from the work.
It's also easy to go ahead and get angry at people who feteshize things like this but you have to consider that a big reason why this occurs is because girls in society aren't always allowed to explore sexuality in context to themselves and it's seen as "dirty" so a lot of yaoi is consumed by that group as it's socially easier to see it just shown by men.
But also, fetishizing gay men is a terrible thing to do. Things such as guessing a "top" or "bottom" for an mlm relationship or thinking about the sex lives of real gay men is not something people should do after looking at yaoi. It's important to have a seperation so as not to hurt real people who struggle with having relationships in society.
Yaoi, like a lot of different media, isn't exactly a representation of how these relationships work in real life. It sounds obvious sure, but people can forget it when they try to sexualize people like this. Honestly I'm going in circles at this point so I guess I just want to say that people should make sure to maintain the seperation between real life mlm relationships and the contrivances seen in yaoi. And try to understand the povs of other people
