it probably wouldn't have done any good. like ''oh prince no this is a misunderstanding haha (ill just beat my child in closed doors)'', since the scolding was because of simon's public image and not because the duke didn't want simon to succeed. but if simon was thought as a threat to ian in any way, he would be discarded, even if ian didn't mind.
It would have been worse for Simon. He knew that and decided that in order for Simon to be happy, he had to work hard and be the best at everything so that Simon would not have felt that continuous threat. Being impulsive by stepping in wouldn't have solve anything also because once he would have step out of the house, everything would have come back to"normal".
