You got cut off lol. Tbh him being so hostile towards her in the beginning, was so random. There wasn't even a clear reason. He just hated her from the moment he saw her. And realize he wasn't aware of the rumors circling around her? I mean, even if u hate or don't care about a person, how can you NOT NOTICE loud whisperings, snickerings, and harsh treatment—this is honestly so forced. Be it the ml falling for the mc so fast with barely any interactions w the mc to the ex-fiancé's hostility towards her and unawareness. The author honestly didn't think much when creating this (no offense towards the author). I mean, the hostility was obv forced on the ex-fiance, his ears & eyes were literally closed off from what was happening to the mc until RIGHT AFTER ENGAGEMENT GOT ANNULLED, and the ml is falling in love too quick—what was the point of their agreement??? It's honestly just a trend that was not used to its full capacity. Everything is so unrealistic, however, I praise the author for how she portrayed the mv's feelings and struggle. She did extremely well in that. That's the only reason why I'm still here tbh.
I thought Wishtish was hostile towards her because his family hated her and before showing up she already had rumours surrounding her. He thought she was a spoiled illegitimate daughter who forced her way into his family. She had no protection from his family or her own so no one could disprove any of the rumours. And he probably didn't see an issue with them or try to see if they were false because there were so many of them. Like imagine if everyone said you were spoiled and had a terrible attitude people would expect you to have that or wouldn't see a reason as to why that wouldn't be true. And he never tried to build their relationship so ignoring her/siding with others allowed people to be crueler.
Of course he would say that he never noticed because he didn't want to admit that a huge part of her suffering was his fault (Like that one flashback where they were kids and he left her alone).
And he probably never thought she'd go through with the annulment because she was in love with him/treated him kindly for 10 years. If a person treats someone like shit over and over again and the other person doesn't fight back they think they can keep doing it. But Niveah finally got over his shit and left. Now he feels bad because he can clearly see everything she went through because he's forced to see it. Not because he chose to.
You might wanna reread chapter 10. He doesn't know sht about her. He doesn't know that she is mistreated by her family, he doesn't know she's an illegitimate child, from the way he reacted it seems like he doesn't even know the rumors surrounding her.
So basically... he hated her for no reason at all. He was hostile towards her.. without even knowing anything about her. That's why it's unrealistic as to why he suddenly feels sad that she left him...
And that's also why I stopped reading lol
Ok clarification on what I wrote. In the most recent chapters he reflects on the past (When they were children he leaves her alone at a ball after his mom publicly ridiculed her) and goes "Oh what I did was really messed up there if only I could go back and change it." Also, he knew people treated Niveah badly but it's because he thought she did something first (Like she deserved being scolded). Example, in the first chapter where that brown haired girl got mad at Niveah instead of hearing her out he sided with the brown haired girl. He didn't care enough to try to learn more about her, and he ignored any of the good she did.
He's probably trying to make himself feel better by 'changing his ways' but like I said before the only reason he's seeing everything clearly is because he's forced to not because he became better (Because he's now seeing everything she goes through from an outsiders perspective and can easily hear all the shit people say. And people now think it's okay to actively shit talk Niveah in front of him). Like now that he knows Niveah was always good, and that everyone including him treated her badly he's like if I got a second chance I would do better. But he ignores the fact that he had 10 years to do better
You are reading too much into it. He literally didn't know anything, not about her nor what was going on the whole time. He literally said himself he despised her the moment he met her.
I'm just saying things that happened over the course of chapters and overthinking is kind of my thing lol (I genuinely enjoy analyzing what I read). These r just my thoughts on y he treated her badly and what lead to him changing 10 years later. And I don't think he deserves a second chance or tht he deserves to feel bad for himself. But it just happened to be a response to your post and that commenter :)
