Um... Okay ... Let me see if I get this straight. I will disregard just how TOXIC the ML is with his perpetual jealously, refusal to trust her, his uncontrolled, rampant temperament and the way he jumps to conclusions and flies off the handle at the least little thing (save in regards to the kids. He does get points for not getting angry at Nuala when she was kicking, screaming and yelling "I HATE YOU, DADDY!!!").

But we are supposed to believe that his adopted mother, who wanted him to stop womanizing, SETTLE DOWN, get married and have kids, heard he was dating a woman EXCLUSIVELY and decided that this woman he was dating EXCLUSIVELY (and WITHOUT hearing ANY ILL ABOUT HER WHATSOEVER), decided on her OWN, that this woman was an OBSTACLE to his settling down, getting married and having kids INSTEAD of thinking that she might be the KEY to it? No. Sorry. I do NOT buy that. Even as a plot device that is not believable. Even with mental illness, it is not believable. If she had wanted him to settle down and have kids, instead of womanizing around town, she would NOT have broken him up with the ONE WOMAN that had managed to get him to be exclusive. Even by Harlequin's lame excuse meter, this is BAD.

NOW, had they said she wanted him to marry a rich lady, or if she had been led to believe the FL was toxic as well, I MIGHT be able to start buying that she would try interfering. But NOT to the point of framing the ML. Just to the point of not allowing the calls and letters.

It would have been MUCH better had it been the ex-wife that did it, because she was wanting to have a "fated" meeting with him and marry him for his money or some such. And much more believable. And since it isn't all the believable itself, that is saying a LOT. Nope.

Story may have had SOME potential, but what little it did, was thoroughly blown it on the "twist."
