Wait what? Did he die? What was the afterlife part?

It was a coma dream he suffered after an accident. Supposedly none of that happened. It was all his wishful thinking, his idea of what could’ve occurred if he’d been braver back then or if he had been ready to risk himself to be happy with the other dude. (I think) but the dudes responses towards him make me think that maybe what he believes to be reality wasn’t exactly what happened and they did have a more meaningful relationship the first time around. Idk tho
