I'm upset that she seems to want to have her cake and eat it. She wants Eris to be her friend, but she won't walk away from the prince. She does not want the prince, but she'll smile and go to the ball with him. She does not want to cause trouble to the other maids, but she won't/can't do any work.
When I wrote my social climber comment, I wrote it after saying, "I'd be more forgiving if she was naive or a social climber/doing it on purpose." (or something like that).
Of course, the prince is the worst! He is putting both in an awful situation.

The thing is, she CAN'T not go to the ball with the prince. She has to smile and go to the ball with him because the prince is like her boss, or boss's bratty kid(?). If she rejected him, imagine what people would say. A commoner rejecting a prince? People would fucking devour her. PEOPLE ARE FORGETTING THAT HELENA CAN'T FIGHT BACK.
