Maybe. Even if it’s a drug, it doesn’t make much more sense. Like if it was a roofie, he’d pass out and be the victim, not the other way around. If it’s viagra or some sex drug, than he’d be horny and maybe aggressive, sure. But enough to commit rape? Again, just taking a drug, one time, doesn’t make someone a rapist.
Just a long rant on what confuses me about Akamine:
1. Obviously, being drunk doesn’t cause you to rape someone. Akamine would’ve already been inclined to commit assault prior to drinking or believed taking advantage of a person while drunk isn’t really wrong. The alcohol is just an excuse (‘liquid courage’) to attempt something he couldn’t do while sober or to a sober person.
I don’t get that impression from this story though. Akamine doesn’t even remember the rape until Utsumi confronts him and seems completely shocked that he did it. He apparently doesn’t know why he did it either. But seriously? Rape is the result of a choice, not a side effect or accident from too much drinking that you easily forget about. Why wouldn’t Akamine know what motivated him to act like that? Why would he forget it happened for 6 whole years??
2. Akamine’s harsh, but shown to have devotion to his department, compassion and some sense of justice. This contradicts the idea that he’s a perpetrator who loses all inhibition while drunk. A person of his character wouldn’t commit sex crimes, even under the influence, right? It just doesn’t make sense. So again, I don’t understand how we’re supposed to interpret his character. What changed? Was he different in the past or is it all an act?? Does he have a split personality?? Same questions apply to Utsumi.
(I just want to read the whole story in one sitting at this point. I need answers!)
