    my theory is that he was profiling the culprit of ch.1 to test on him but then Sada-sensei got involved and the dude ran away. Mr. Scientist simply saw an opportunity and took it lol that's what I think

    The scientist caught a glimpse of the sensei while he’s on his way to work and he wanted to talk to him. Later when he’s back from work at night, he coincidentally saw the sensei again while the sensei’s patrolling. While the scientist’s considering how to start a conversation with the sensei, he unconsciously followed him on his van. He stopped, took a turn and stopped on another street, still thinking how he should greet the sensei. That’s when the murderer came and banged his car’s window. He followed the footage of the murderer and found the sensei’s already been killed so he decided to take him and the student home
