I guess it's different for everyone. I can remember my childhood pretty well. I can recall things from the time I was 3 or 4 etc. But I forgot a lot of stuff from the time I went to elementary school and junior high.
On the other hand my cousin/childhood friend doesn't really remember stuff from the past, it's me who holds most of our memories ^^
Btw I don't know if it's applicable to you, but people tend to repress hurtful, traumatic events.
I remembered some and forgot some.
Like myself before accident when I was 4 years old but forgot what happen after accident.

I can remember things since i'm a toddler. I have things past and preaent thati can easily forget but some that stays in my mind for forever. But my memory is weird like that.
I remember some but my sister has forgotten a lot apparently. Though actually it's hard to say which are real memories and which false ones, since people can create false memories based on what they've heard.
I don't remember much about my past. Especially when I was 3 to 12 years old. I only remember what events are special to me or my family or my childhood friend that I know. I think that it's different for everyone. Like my brother, he doesn't remember much about his past. He said he would have engraved things about his past if he had been interested in them. He also said he didn't engrave things because he want to focus to the present and think about the future.

I've thought about that too since my memory can be sharp at some opprtunitites but dull and forgetful on the other side. So me being me, i confirm the memories i remember, say to my mother and to other people. I don't think i'll be able to stand having those what you call false memories haha.

Finally I found someone like me , I can't even remember things that happened when I was young like 3 yrs old to 17 yrs old.... ha-ha, and I'm 19 now...my sister always remember event and most of her young time life... but I can't even remember a single event not even like how my family celebrate it , but my sis remember most of them
