I don't get it. People on here will literally rate rape based manhwa's like BJ Alex and Love is an Illusion and Painter of the Night etc etc etc nearly 10/10 yet an artist doesn't gloss over the realities of that crime and suddenly readers understand that yes rape is horrific and unjustifiable?! I really hope that those that complain about this webtoon, also reflect on their attitudes to other webtoon yaoi on here and how they "shipped" Jiwon with his victim, Seungho with his victim, Dojin with his victim and so on.

All those works romantize rape. Actually all the yaoi industry romantizes it, and a lot of readers will put up with it as long as it's pretty and gives the raped one butterflies in the stomach, after a reasonable number of chapters where they mull over the atrocity and end thinking something along the lines of "yeah it was love all along, I'll accept it".

Actually, the yaoi world romantizes all kind of toxic behaviours, from rape to psychopathic tendencies and emotional abuse. Is not a healthy sector, this one that we read, and I am aware. The sad part comes when the majority of ppl that reads it /refuses/ to see the truth behind the glitter. They came to have fun and evade themselves from reality! How could they start thinking about serious matters like rape when all they want is not to think about serious matters?

And thus, this applies to everything in life.

Why do you think short snout dogs keep getting genetically selected? Bc there's ppl who likes bulldogs. Or likes toy-sized Yorkshires. Or likes white tigers. "It's wrong but they look pretty" and everyone praises the pretty.

Listen, I might agree with some of your points, BUT, I just think it's unfair and not subjective at all to put a whole genre and thousands of authors on the same box. The fact that people choose to give a platform to the creators with the problematic stories doesn't mean the whole bl genre is the same! There are many works out there that get half(or less) recognition and are million times better. The problem is the supporters who choose to read these works. Also let's not forget that there are works out there that are psychological thrillers etc. Like killing stalking for example. Whereas it's true that the relationship is toxic, it's not the focus of the story, since it's a psychological thriller and not a bl slice of life or any other genre. So yea my point is that there are many works that are very popular within the community that manage to disguise rape and make a relationship out of it,but that doesn't mean that's the whole genre or every author's works is like that. So yea instead of supporting those go read sth better and raise awareness! Go read sth like: doukyuusei, Rumspringa no Joukei, given, Life Senjou no Bokura etc.

As readers we see the work from the eyes of the main character, in BJ Alex / painter of the night, the MCs were ok with what was happening although it was wrong us as readers we had to accept it the way it is, in this one the MC obviously is shaken so we hate it, also the whole thing is so realistic to me that it gives me goosebumps tbh, i hope he will go to a hospital and get some help

Honestly, i think most of the dislike comes because people don't really like the art. I've seen plenty of really disturbing stories that do not gloss over the rape aspect of the BL manga and the story is still relatively enjoyed. The difference between those stories and this one comes down to the art. If this was drawn better and paced better then there would 100% be a higher rating and better/kinder feedback. The low rating and the dislike is just based on a compilation of things, art, pacing and subject matter which makes sense. Logically, if you're going to have a story with the same subject matter but better paced and better art, the overall feedback will also be better

@Howl's closet - Yeah I see your point, my bad for generalizing. I'm aware that there are /a lot/ of genres that go hand by hand with yaoi, exploring another paths like, as you said, psychological thrillers. And we have mangas that portrays love and respect and all the good things. That's neat. Marvelous.
Yes! They're increasing as some societies/authors go through their own change of mind. Very welcome, proud of it.
But still, big percentage of yaoi fantasies revolves around romantization of abuse. The worst part is when it attracts new readers that dive in w/o guidance. I've had ppl coming at me saying "why you gay ppl are so rapey" after they got their hands on 'popular' works. It makes me sad.
Yaoi 15 years ago was a nightmare of rape porn lol The genre evolved so much since then...
I've been recommending my fav mangas full of gay love and consent for years, yes. I'm bad with names tho so idk if I already read the ones you said, but I'll check and see. Thanks ^u^

@FUCK - your comment worries me. No offense intended, and I don't want to be two-faced toward his topic bc I also read some cuestionable shit, but do not normalize it. Just because something is written in a certain way does not imply you have to agree with it or think that it is a valid behavior.

@Starsandmetaphors - I... Do not look over ratings when reading lol. The art is .... Well the art is ugly. I at least don't like it. But yeah, I agree with you

Non taken, i just like to disconnect personal feelings and values from fiction if that makes sense, in real life situations i am obviously against any form of abuse but it's fiction so i take it the way it's served to me
