The author just portraits a REALISTIC point of view, yes, it's full of stereotypes, but the author never makes fun or insult the tribe people. I'm sure the author never meant any harm, as I said at the start, they just show a realistic behaviour from a common white person who doesn't know how the tribe life works.
The author, in my opinion, nailed it. This has nothing to do with racism. I have been to Africa and the behavior of my friends was the same as this doctor. They didn't know how to act or even how to fit in. As time went by, they started to relax, they enjoyed and even adapted to their surrounding.
