I admire the Queen, but she’s not really likable imo.

The Queen is mightily self reassured of her own charms, isn’t she? And this fits with a person who incited a rebellion and conquered a kingdom and other countries. I like how the Queen is presented, but that doesn’t mean that she’s a very likable character imo. Especially with what she was sprouting in chapter 53. She is a person who wants her cake and eat it too. She wants it all but is in no way shape or form willing to compromise. I think the only concession she made is being ready to have a child herself to keep the bloodline going.
I understand why she doesn’t want to marry. She conquered an extremely patriarchal kingdom and as a woman to boot, which is an unbelievable accomplishment. I’m not surprised that she doesn’t want to share her power with a husband.
But I think she has a habit of judging people’s character and their intentions prematurely. Like she does with Yuri. Or this old adviser who wants her to marry. Everyone is bending to her Will and that seems to be inflating her ego a little bit. But she also has to continuously demonstrate her power against courtiers who question her legitimacy. So I understand why she is this way.
I don’t know how she wants to make it work with having a bastard child in the future. Especially seeing Aenon grow up being treated like garbage for it. She might have all the power now but if she dies prematurely, leaving a child behind, there is no guarantee that this child would be the next king/queen in a kingdom that still wants to hold on to their old traditions.
Sometimes I feel that the Queen and Aenon come off to other aristocrats like children playing a big political game, being out for vengeance without much of a clue how to hold that power for future generations. And that just doesn’t incite trust, only fear and uncertainty.
The Queen doesn’t want to marry. Her second in command doesn’t want to marry either. Now she’s scheming to have a bastard child with her tailor.
She was only able to overthrow the kingdom with the support of powerful people because the last king was a tyrant. She should think about what happens when people grow tired of their leaders willful behavior.
Don’t get me wrong, she’s an interesting character but very flawed. As is everyone in this webtoon. That’s why it is so good.
I just hope that Aenon will find his own goal in the future independent of wanting to be the Queens faithful dog. He grew up being an outsider, so held on to the person that gave him hope. I can’t wait for the moment he has to make a decision.
And honestly, I don’t think the Queen will be all to enthused about finding out that Yuri is a girl. She would probably admire the guts it took, but from a political standpoint, it would show weakness if she didn’t do anything to punish Yuri for pretending to be a man. I suspect that this is what it’s building up to. And for Aenon to take a stance against the Queen in favor of Yuri.
