That's probably because he is textbook smart, being a dokkaebi is new to him soooo...
uhm you not gonna be first nationally if youre text book smart. i mean no offense to the bookworm but theres a bunch of genius and other bookworms around for him to just get this spot with an average mind. the author can just say hes smart, i dont see why they set him up for such high standard but didnt deliver so
theres not many moment of extraodinary about him or even his brain? like somehow just immature, young and weak? the typical character for a shounen (before character development happens anw) but its not that interesting as a narrative.
