Ok the only way this story doesn't stay this toxic abusive trainwreck is if the ML has a deep realisation on how he hurt, manipulated, gaslighted and put the FL (while she was pregnant and a fugitive Mother ) through hell, because of his selfish wants to "own" people.
I mean if I were in FL shoes, after a while of unrelenting abuse (she can't even escape him in her dreams) I'd consider commiting collective suicide with my children. Or becoming a drug addict
Cause aparently he only wants her body, fuck her psychological and emotional wellbeing.
But prob he's gonna figure out he must treat her like a human being if he wants to keep her from being a human husk, and realise * gasp* people like you more if you treat them well (Ik, the lesson a 3yo learned)
And never adress his horrific actions beyond one semi generic apology where he cries and all is forgiven....
Sorry for the rant but the more I think about the machiavelian machinations, envolved, the more pissed I got.
