I don't disagree with you, actually? You have a very good point. It's not like people lose any right to like somebody just because they've slept with people besides the one they like.
But at the chapter where the prince wore a wig, he became obssessed when he had a chance to capture louis barehanded. It's a dirty loser trick. Now, we don't know how many times or if he really did slept with many girls but, the way he made his own advances to louis was only because he knows that louis is already aware of his intentions and might also be aware of his feelings for the prince.
In short, even at the first place when he did not take any initiative he's already blaming it to the innocent louis. And now that the 'time' gave him a chance he's discarding whatever shit he might have been having just because he got louis. And he did not even do anything for that. Even the duke made better efforts to get louis' attention while there he is using his appearance to appeal more and play it safe (assuming he doesn't have any ill intentions and just likes louis).
This is why I believe that Maetel of all people is the most loser character in this story. That's what arrogance of title gives people tbh, they want everything smoothly on the palm of their hands.

About Maetel, it's because he is playing safe. He's disregarding the fact that the one who likes the other was him. He's pinning it all to Louis, it's a complicated idea but to make it short, he is arrogant and he thinks that little courtesy of Louis was a sign of Louis giving hints to him. He thought that way in the first place because it was him who liked Louis first, he's inside his own trance.
All of that and he still resorted to (everything I pointed out in my last comments)
