In her place, I would be afraid to say about human identity. She is afraid of the sisters and would have to tell one of them to her fiancé. Now she is safer because everyone thinks she is a strange bird and only Valhayle realizes that she is more intelligent than ordinary birds, but no one else has seen it.
If she started communicating with other words, they might start asking questions or somehow finding out about her identity, and that would kill her. I think not communicating is the best option until he knows more and knows who is trustworthy
My thoughts exactly, and also if she communicates to the captain dude, his subordinates can start thinking he's like actually crazy and risk his leadership. His troops start questioning him it'll effect the fight, they're already struggling as it is, so if they don't trust him it can cost them the war. ╮(￣▽￣)╭
At least this way she can be of use to the war effort and be able to do it without feeling she needs to constantly hide.
