The reason the sister can’t visit is very simple and very complex. First it’s reductive to say that it’s because this is “typical yoai” and as such they only want to feature men and sex.

Euwon Jung and Mogul Eun have one of the most complex and well developed relationships of any I have ever read in the boy’s love genre. They are very three dimensional characters and fully realized, and as such this is one reason the sister cannot visit.

Ewon purposely cast aside his family and the hope/pride/love at being an “Oni-chan/Oppa”. If he let’s his little sister text, call, or visit she will pull him right back into the the world of his mother and their dependency on him.

As an abandoned child, which is exactly what Ewon is, that is too much and far too selfish. He was devastated at the decision he made which is why he said he felt like a puppet with no soul and that he could only ever have one and not the other. He couldn’t have the love of his family or the fulfillment of finally being needed by them which rivaled his abhorrence and disgust with his mother and yet at the same time was eclipsed by his all encompassing love for Mookyul.

He decided rather than splitting himself in two he would take the one love that was greater and sacrifice the lesser even though he knew he was abandoning her and also in doing so somewhat repeating the sins of his mother. Allowing his sister any form of entree into his world, regardless of her acceptance of his relationship or not, after making that decision would have been allowing even the small possibility that she would shake his resolution to sacrifice everything to his love for Mookyul. And of course she would never come and not talk about their mother and her problems at home which of course would shake and worry him.

Simply put he could not allow her even the slightest opening into his heart or world if he was going to stay loyal to Mookyul. However ultimately it could never be that simple because of how complex and richly these characters were developed. As I said they are really three dimensional characters and to simplify their interactions to manga genres alone is not fair to their development as such.

This is of course my opinion, but I do believe that was the intent of the author when she made Ewon so resolute in his decision to cut ties with his family completely.

Hahaha I try and you’re welcome. Actually I think what the mangaka did here was quite brilliant because she showed how even Ewon’s mother was able to rationalize her choice to abandon her son for her love of his father. If you think about it a bit they made almost exactly the same decision, to abandon a loved one, for someone else they loved more.

I do think though Ewon’s mother was the crueler one however for leaving her child to die which is not what Ewon did with his sister and mother.

Ultimately this goes to show you that you can make any decision no matter how cruel if you resolve to make it. It also showed that no person/character/etc is truly good or evil black or white. Instead they exist as shades of gray making decisions that may be viewed as right or wrong depending on your perspective. It sure as hell made me consider Ewon’s mother in a slightly different light.

I love your in-depth view and analysis, I was thinking the exact same thing and tend to break down the plot into the whole scenario (behind the scenes) to complete the story in my mind... Great analysis and exactly as I was thinking also.

Shame how they can’t stay connected but he would have to give up his everything (emotionally, physically and mentally) within his relationship, to be able to allow the child to contact him. This would open up his wound to a cataclysmic level and most likely leave him beyond mentally (retarded (this is how much damage is portrayed to us)) unstable.

I really liked this story the ebb and flow was really nice as well and the link with the panther spirit. Wish it was much longer imo!

I completely agree with everything you said. In fact a different person would have just cut the call and be on their merry way. Why should he care for this mom or sister? The amount of ppl guilt tripping Mookyul and Ewon is insane. Finally Ewon and Mookyul are happy. For decades neither had any peace. Now suddenly they need to be saddled with this kid?? If the kid needs that much help foster homes exist. Already Ewon helped them financially. The kid is also arrogant. She knows her bro was abandoned by her mom now she demands Ewon stay with them and take care of them?? He is not the nanny! His place is beside Mookyul. And Mookyul is right. Ewon tends to start getting depressed with too much worry. With this mental mom and needy sister he won't get any happiness. And I don't see why Mookyul gotta raise this sister either. It's a burden situation. Sister should not bother Ewon in the future. Ewon demanded Mookyul cannot love anyone but him. Mookyul can expect the same thing. She should forge her own path in life. There are many kids in this world who can't even afford to eat and she is better in comparison. For Ewon, this family is a shackle he broke. He doesn't need to take any moral obligation. Raising kids is exhausting. He will constantly worry about this sister and sister will keep pestering him to attend the events or about her mom etc. I hate that his family pesters him so much. The audacity of the mom. She doesn't wanna raise the daughter so shoves her to Ewon?? Every time Ewon sees the sister he will be reminded of the love and care he never recieved. Why torture himself?
