It's true to some point in the story. But take into account that he is well aware of this, deeply regrets it himself and in my opinion really tries to become better. And in the end he is apparently a very good friend with both Hana and Aster, so I don't think he stays this way. Hana at one point is very aware of him, even thinking of him a liar. So I like to think that he eventually manages to reflect on himself and become a better person, also thanks to Hana's influence.
