The dad threatened him because he let the dad threaten him. The moment he became a Duke he should have tossed the dad out. Instead he kept clinging to the father in law. He never tried to take his own power. It would be different if the father in law was a king or emperor, but he is just another Duke. And since when can a noble from another land interfere like that? If he has spies in your castle organize your people and kick them out. Not even because he loves the Fl. Putting all that aside for a moment, why even become the Duke as the second son if you aren't gonna take control? Like, what did he want the title of Duke for?
I wish he at least tired to live up to the words he spoke to the FL when they first meet in the glass house. "Live your life. Don't be swayed and give it to others."
Characters aren't always automatically likeable in stories. And characters shouldn't be automatically hated. But when a character is written in a way where they fuck up in a major way it normally takes more than being a little nice to redeem them.
This guy has a bit more of wiggle room because he remembers the past, unlike other MLs that were absolute shits in their past life to the FL but only the FL remembers it. So at least he knows where he fucked up and how to not do so this time. But also because he remembers he will be expected to make amends. And he hasn't done that yet. Not just in my opinion he hasn't done so yet.
He can't just show up and be nice all of a sudden. He has to tell her the conditions of their marriage. Everything up until a bit before Elle was born is the same as the last life. So they spent the majority of their marriage with him ignoring her. Which is why she gave him the stink eye when she asked if he liked her now. Until he at least communicates with her the process of making amends hasn't begun.

I don’t feel bad for the ml at all he was grown enough to know what to do and what not to do and he paid for the choices he’s made it’s up the fl to forgive him or not she and her child had to suffer cause of him and her father and he felt bad cause of his guilty conscience but that on him he wanted to go back to ask her to forgive him but wanted to ask the her that didn’t know what happened that isn’t forgiveness that’s just erasing past mistakes the the other doesn’t know abt to make you feel better
