I think it depends on the execution? If they’re supposed to be bad, then I have no problem with it personally bc it’s supposed to be bad. I think there’s a difference between the story romanticizing it vs the characters romantizing it. (they should give warnings however so people who are uncomfortable can avoid it) overall, it’s literature and literature is supposed to be analyzed and broken down instead of taken at face value, hence theme, message, etc....The reason we can analyze it in the first place is BECAUSE it’s not real, hence why I believe what is depicted in fiction will never be as bad as what’s happened in real life. Fiction can stem from real life but real life can’t stem from fiction. Overall, while it makes me deeply uncomfortable when the narration starts to romanticize it, I won’t give it as much thought as I do irl bc no one irl has been harmed in that work that has been created. At the end of the day, I view it only as a story that can have a good or bad message depending on it’s execution, nothing less nothing more. If the content has the potential to trigger and send me back into relapse, I will avoid it.
they're uncomfy and i'd usually avoid them, i sometimes read them just ro get a laugh. but i still think they're fictional so it's not really bad to read...? just a matter of whether you justify it or not.
also, people seem to always misunderstand that having any bad things mentioned above equals bad story, but that's not always the case.
there are great stories that mention them, use them as a central background plot and handle them well, they could increase awareness etc.
Adding onto my previous comment. I do think literature with these content should exist. We shouldn’t be censoring literature if no one irl has been harmed from its creation, but like I said, tags or warnings should be given so people it may potentially trigger can avoid it. Censorship when it comes to taboo topic isn’t necessarily always a good thing, bc sometimes we need to gouge how these things apply and work to recognize it for what it truly is; taboo things.
to answer your question: the worth of a manga is something you decide for yourself, and the enjoyment of a manga doesn't mean you condone the actions. obviously, you might think it's worth reading a certain manga, while someone may think the opposite so that's entirely up to you to decide. on the second half of your question, yes these happen in real life situations but that doesn't mean you justify it. for example, suicide is common irl and there have been dozens of manga showing suicide. just because it is bad and it happens in real life doesn't really mean you can't read or enjoy it. if there was the case where mangas only show the "good" side, i don't think mangas would be as intriguing to read.
Those are usually topics i would prefer to avoid, but if it enhances the plot and is a part of the character, i think it is ok to read. For example, in Berserk there's a lot of horrible shit like rape, pedophilia, incest, etc... but they arent sexualized nor normalized. They are there to show the readers the exact horrors of what the characters experienced and the reality of the world they live in.
On the other hand, there's also lots of stories that have sexualized rape and pedophilia which is not ok at all. the reason sex crimes are so high in japan is bc they have so much normalized rape and SA in the shit they read. Not to mention average age of consent in japan is 13. 13 fucking years old. nah bro... Clearly not everyone is willing to separate fiction from reality, they're making it their reality.
what do yall think about manga/hua/hwas which contains really bad things?? i mean rape, toxic relationship, manipulative partner etc. is it really not worth them to read? yes they are fictional but irl there are actually some cases like these so
