Yeah, but still. If the emperor preferred the younger sister, why did the prince still get engaged to the older one? He didn't make the match making, the emperor did.
The older one made a tantrum and they eventually gave in and just got the prince engaged with the older sister....well that's my speculation I guess
MC threw a tantrum so her parents requested a switch of fiancee's, and the king accepted but posed a condition of MC's parents paying reparations as money, which is why that entire issue of MC using money for everything comes up
