Not about love at all but TW: rape

Not everyone’s cup of tea for sure but it wasn’t too heavy as long as you don’t expect a lovey-dovey happily ever after. It’s about jaded people doing whatever they can to survive and satisfy their own needs (sex, codependency, money). And none of them were looking for love (except Kouji). I wouldn’t call this story deep or beautiful but it has a realistic portrayal of a consensually loveless relationship. Consensual polyamory is not for everyone but for people not opposed to it, you might actually appreciate this story and how the characters made their rltnshp work for them in the end.

SPOILERS AHEAD
Manaoto just wanted companionship and meaningless sex, Naoki just wanted a “master” who will pamper him for the rest of his life, Jin wanted money, and Kouji wanted love but it’s not Manaoto’s fault at all that he can’t give Kouji what he wants.

About Manaoto: We’ll never know how it was really like between him and Shuu-san bc he said Shuu was at times gentle with him. Was it an act of manipulation or gaslighting, or did Shuu secretly like Manaoto in his own toxic way, we’ll never know. Still, Manaoto insists that he loved Shuu and who are we to judge anyone’s feelings or how a rape victim chooses to cope with reality, right? And he’s doing everything he can just to “feel alive” and temporarily fill that void in his heart. It’s not his fault that he doesn’t want to accept anyone’s love for him, it’s actually his way of not hurting other people too. In reality, not everyone needs love to survive and what we call happiness is different for everyone. I’m glad the 3 of them were able to make their poly relationship work, even setting clear boundaries like not bringing other people home but being free to do whatever outside. This story does have a happy ending, just not the type that most of us are used to.
