Is it mind control or something?
I knew from the start it was suspicious, how can he have such a high position in the church withouth having any power? I always thought that he was probably hiding his powers,... who knows, maybe in the novel abel was under his mind control or whatever the whole time, that's why in his perspective the church was good. I have other theories but this seems the most likely
