I think mind control/manipulation could be considered attack magic possibly so if she awakens the third rank she’ll be able to nullify his magic and be fine. Maybe that’s why they were drugging her?

Why? He has manipulation powers. That's the OP thing ever Unless you can find a way to block it, but that's gonna be a journey in and of itself.
