Probably too late but she didn't like flowers more than a person but rather could not see how love was that important and never had someone she loved, until the girl came and confessed. But then it was too late and the flowers "are" her. We can see in the end that the teachers too had the flowers which might be that the teacher and student both felt regret about their love.
