I am failing to understand why the father blames the daughter for the mother dying in the carriage accident. That's like blaming a passenger in a car accident for someone dying. I'm also curious about the duke's lame ass backstory as to why he abandoned his wife in the past. Why does he treat her differently now? Because she can be of use to him now? Honestly leave him and take Elle with you. Marry the prince or something.
