Yep. Wearing a corset is akin to a woman's underwear. While the scene itself didn't have to be shown, even though I liked that added touch, the reasoning of her not wearing one being that she has a thin waist would still be too inappropriate. Wearing a corset in this setting is a must.
I say though, it was quite an odd scene XD
Ah I'd like to explain my original comment. Yes, I understand that they needed to use corsets and such, but lacing it too tightly to the point of her screaming was just unnecessary?? Cuz as other people mentioned in the replies, corsets were made to fit the person's bodies and we're not that tight. Also, she already had a thin waist so they didn't need to tight lace it so much to achieve a thinner waist. There wouldn't be much fat to hide by tight lacing and there's would that be much difference. But i agree that it wasn't a relevant scene and was used as a comedic factor but sjsjshshb I'm just so tired of corset misrepresentation ╥﹏╥
Very much agreed! I feel like most comics and shows display corsets as painful or constricting if a character isn't the cool type. They go for comedic affect, but I personally find them uncomfortable. For example, there's a similar scene in Black Butler. Definitely an awkward thing to watch.
I totally understand you being tired with it. Me too honestly. There needs to be some sort of club for it or something. "I'm fed up with corset misrepresentation and misinterpretation" club.
While I do agree... I feel like the corset scene in black butler was meant as a double entendre for both a "Corsets are terrible" joke and classic joke about the characters of ciel and sebastian having sex (because I'm not gonna lie... I accidently saw that scene online before watching the show and thought it was a yaoi... and considering the author use to write yaoi, I was low key surprised it wasn't XD)
ah yes tight lacing when she clearly already had a thin waist...
I like the story, but that scene was unnecessary tbh
