My take on the villain's reasoning

Okay so far, I agree with what people are saying that there are stories that black magic is not portrayed as something bad. And that there are some stories that those people who work for the "light" or "divine" are the one's who are evil. I agree that it is unfair to say that those who study black magic is evil. But the thing is you gotta look at this at the prospective of the setting of the storg where black magic is forbidden. And what does forbidden mean? It is something that is absolutely not allowed to do. It is taboo. It is a crime. Plus the villainess's family did it in secret so it was inevitable, even the villainess said it so. It was inevitable. This is why my reaction to her reasoning is just "oh, okay" because it was something that is bound to happen.

Ya'll gotta think too. So far in the story where has she used black magic?

The emperor had enough reasons to kill her family as they committed taboo and forbidden akin to crime. What her family did was akin to treason. So it was inevitable.

And even if she did was the protagonist, I wouldn't resonate with her at all.

I don't hate her, I just find her reason to get revenge quite weak. I still get it that her family was massacred but you gotta think about it with the setting in mind.

sighhh finally someone pointed it out. indeed, there are stories where black magic is not considered to be evil but this is not that story. i do get why she wants revenge. i do get that her whole family has been wiped out together with rest of the mages but was the reason for their eradication just a whim of the previous emperor? no, they studied and planned to continue what is forbidden against the law, against the emperor, so her saying they were oppressed and wanting them to finally come out of hiding is nothing but trouble and lacks the ohmp factor of revenge. if she was being manipulated all along to revenge her kin then that'll be the time i'll be surprised
