i automatically registered it in my head as something that's usual there in japan (for connection and/or good image) but now that you mentioned it im actually wondering if that's the case...

Yeah!! It seems so extreme to have your work place control your private life like that??

weirdly enough in the recommended manga i saw a straight story from a BL mangaka that had this trope too! i guess it's really quite common?

Well it's possible even in real life. My friend lost his mother when he was 4 years old and his father was 25 at the time. The father didn't want to remarry anyone because she was the love of his life. Then after 5 years The boss said that it was enough time to get over the grief and that he had to remarry for the sake of his son and then practically forced him to meet and then marry the daughter who is 5 years older than him and sincerely she is very ugly and unpleasant. When he refused at first the boss blackmailed him and he didn't had other choice. The boss thought that was the best way to marry her because nobody wanted to be with her . She is the worst person and a bad mother my friend didn't like her from the start.

Thank you, now my friend and his father are doing great, because after almost 6 years of marriage the boss died of heart attack and then his father divorced the year after and now he is the boss of the company. Sadly every now and then you can hear of people who has arranged marriage in the work place, especially if they are over 30 years old.
