He actively did not attend any of her birthday parties, he gave her a sword and said nothing more, didn’t clarify what he wanted her to do with it. He let her think that he hated her without telling her he loved her.
Exactly. No matter what his reason is, he still neglected her which lead her to crave for attention from others making her a "villain" that she never wanted to be. In the end, she ended her life due him not explaining anything at all.
