I relate to Chorong...

Having a hobby you love and keeping things related to it which you're really fond of at home. Just to one day you get home and one of your parents finds your stuff, throws it all away and yells at you for wasting time on such foolish things.

For me, it's been a few years and things are a bit better now but remembering this kind of stuff makes me a little sad, especially when it happened more than once.

In my case, my mom would complain about anything I like whether it was drawing, playing video games, watching anime, reading manga, listening to music, even watching TV. The most extreme though was when I bought this cheap Luffy action figure in middle school at local newsstand and came with a book. On the same day I bought it, my mom came home and yelled at me and ripped all my wall posters and my book and threw it all away, saying I shouldn't waste money on such things.

I still have the same hobbies as before but I promised myself that I will wait until I earn my own money before I buy anything I want. That way my mom can't complain about it.

I'm very sorry that you have to experience it. My mother also didn't like when I've enjoyed something that wasn't connected to school or university. It's very important to allow yourself to like whatever you like and not trying to please the others all the time. Your mother's behavior was awful. Of course you can't diagnose anybody through the internet but you might look up how narcissitic parents are behaving and see if it matches your mother.

Jesus. That's not parenting or strict it's controlling. I already bought it so what's the point in breaking it

My mom went through a lot since childhood and in the past few years with my sister which I cannot mention for legal reasons. She get mad at me pretty often, she kicked me out of the house the other week but was desperate when my phone's battery died and I didn't reply to her. I'm still living in with her btw. I'm fairly certain she suffers from undiagnosed depression but I don't even dare mention therapy near her because of how often she says that depression is not real and people with depression are weak and lazy. She overworks herself to the core taking care of my sister and doesn't have time for herself.

But I'm really thankful for the kind messages. It's been many years and I'm ok now. I still have the figure since it was the only thing left. I don't hate or resent my mom. Yes, she makes me sad sometimes but I don't hate her. I'm unable to hate anyone actually. It's kinda weird but it's true. So I'm just trying to life each day and find an internship soon so I can have some money of my own :)

That hurts in a different way. I loved drawing and painting ever since I was a 4th grader or something and I used to draw on scrap papers and stuff because my parents thought it was a waste of money. I remember having my sister's watercolours, she was super good at drawing and got them as a gift but hardly used them. So, I would use them and stick my painting inside my designated cupboard at home. My parents didn't like me spending time on those, didn't even let me take a short 2 weeks drawing course our school held. One day I came back home from school only to find all of my paintings and drawings missing and unfortunately my mom never told me where she threw them away. I only have one painting from those times which I cherish to no end.
