I think she's well aware of her situation but nobody has ever told it to her face hence she acts ignorant:D

I think so too, I mean she's a full grown adult not a helpless kid. She know the situation she's in and is taking advantage of her "innocence".
What makes everyone despise Helena is her ignorance of other and self pity to he point she acts selfish. She never thinks how her actions may effect others and that’s her biggest flaw. No matter how nice someone is with that level of ignorance she can never be a queen.
