I'm still not getting the gist behind their names... I feel like I'm reading way too fast....

Probably it's related to the kanji in their names. For akito, perhaps the kanji could be read as eito as well, so people often read his name wrongly. For hatta, i think his name contains the kanji 8 (read as hachi) so it becomes his nickname. But im not quite sure because it has been translated completely so we cant see the kanji. Cmiiw
