apparently he knew that the duke was targeting him and at that time he already knew Elena wasn’t Veronica and loved her way back before they even married. i think his reason for treating ‘veronica’ like that was so that the duke didn’t gain more power from having a favored daughter. but unfortunately Elena died. when she was killed, (i don’t know the exact details) he punished the real veronica and the duke and took care of Ian. from the spoilers I read, he told Ian stories of his real mother every night and raised him up with love. he is definitely better than the ml from abandoned empress

From the spoilers Im seeing that the ml isnt a bad dude and hopefully thats true cuz I dont want another Abandoned Empress situation where girlie forgives the ml even though he was terrible to her in her previous life like she went through all that work to get revenge and a better future for her family so I hope she doesn't struggle as much as before
