so redhead may or may not have some inferiority complex towards mc. Like from ch 8, he used mc's weakness (him being gay) as to somehow control him from being friendly with male lead. and from the raws, i think it was because red head had family problems which then made red head compare himself to mc. bottom line is, he has issues from his past which he cant let go of and that is probably the reason why he cant wholly love mc because he keeps seeing mc as competition or like he cant stop comparing himself to mc. They are friends with benefits but its because red head used mc's sexuality as a way to make himself feel better (he does feel inferior towards mc).
