I get that some people want to see redemption stories were assholes realize there mistakes, make amends and get a second chance0 (I do to sometimes). We all want to be able to learn and forgive. But sometimes for me I really don't find it realistic. This is one of them. They neglected her and mistreated her. If it were me I would also want nothing to do with my family. screw them.

I have to say first that do not expect family bonding and affection in this novel. The FL is someone who has experienced 500 years (those years, her family did not look for her once while they were used as hostages by the emperor against her), in which her feelings of resentment and hatred for her family gradually whittled away to indifference. She has no feelings for her family, which is worse than feeling hate. [Spoiler]

there is a part in the novel where in the rebellion she sees the Grand Duke entourage approaching the gates. She thinks that they are there to attack her at first, and she thinks in her mind that while she does not want innocents harmed for her revenge, she will kill them (her family) if she has to. But the Grand Duke used a red flag which means to join and so she puts down the bow she raised

That ploy works in other stories with redeemable characters, this family treated her like trash, left her to be bullied by the staff, never acknowledge her accomplishments and basically ignored her enough for days to pass before he was like "you know what, I havent seen that pain in the ass for a while". It doesnt help that during her childhood until adult years before she was yearning for their love and even while undergoing the magic sword ritual she still thinks enough to protect them. Its a toxic family and environment and they took her for granted. We need more stories that show that its okay to cut off people like that in your lives.
It would be more heart warming if this story highlights the family bonding and have a positive progress with her family..not only with the prince
