I'M SO CONFUSED about the setting. It doesn't really look like Philippines?

yup. the story was ok but the portrayal of the Philippines is kind of.. you know, off putting. but i also just considered the fact that this was made on 2010

seems like sensei's been to the Philippines since s/he have some deep grudge against it.
I'm not really sure about this story. the plot is good enough but the depiction if a country is quite not right.
1) the setting seemed like a province and given that this is in 2010 things are still backward but the scene when asano's going to the airport, there's a proper bus and even a taxi to ride. I believe even in other countries' province they also use pick up truck for riding and hitch hiking.
this is actually true in Philippines. they use a lot of communal and cheap mean for people in the province but the way it was used is inappropriate. also the airport.
2) the justice system is also far from decent enough but the way it was portrayed is down right wrong. it's also wrong to just run since he's not even accused yet. but anyway maybe it's for purpose of the story.
fyi foreigners are treated with utmost hospitality and fascination in the Philippines to the point that they are like a celebrity . that's the other scene where Tanaka was dounced with water is unthinkable same with the police treatment. If there's one thing Filipinos are afraid of it's pissing of a foreigner hello colonial mentality. and,
3) even way before 2010 Philippines is regarded for its understanding of English. waaaay better than the japanese can. how come it was shown that they do not understand it at all??

I can't believe it was taken place at the Philippines.... I do love the manga.. But it was kinda.. buuut anyways it is cute so it's fine..
