Often times the labels are only based on what is available at this moment. There have been plenty of manga where they're labelled as just shounen ai until an actual sex scene happens and it gets labelled as something else.
Plus, based on the authors other works, it wouldn't be weird to assume that this is going to follow along the same way.
Although they could be trying something new, who knows for sure.
