A yes, the classic: Instead of addressing the systemic and horrible portrayals of consent in yaoi, a genre primarily read by young girls with limited sexual experiences and a limited understanding of consent, and calling it out when it is portrayed as anything but rape, I should instead ignore it, and allow the perpetuation of rape culture to continue.
And I was chill, I wasn't going to respond to any comments in this thread, it's just annoying that every time someone calls out rape in yaoi (especially when it is portrayed as if it is not) that the response is always just don't read it. When I was younger, and my friends and I read yaoi we had a really fucked up sense of what consent is because our sex education (like most around the world) was terrible, and so there were so many situations I thought were consensual based on what I was reading, that turned out they aren't. Whether yaoi readers want to admit it or not, there are many individuals (especially young) who take what they read, and extrapolate it to the real world.
Yaoi is not going to make up because your country's sex ed was incompetent.
I am sure that there is a faze we all go through where we try to think that fiction can be applied irl but we realize that it does not work that way....because we are humans....and have brains....for thinking....no one will gladly get raped cause of yaoi I'm sure of it....
The thing is so many people complain about rape in yaoi it's not like you are the only
But for example almost every hentai contains rape, does anyone complain about it? They sure as hell not.
As I said you are going overboard. You are not helping young people learn about rellationships that way. This is my view on it
I don't think you fully understand what I'm saying. There are plenty of people who think having sex with someone who is drunk isn't rape solely based on the media they consume. No one gladly gets raped, some people get raped without knowing it is. You're right, yaoi isn't sex education, just like porn isn't, but media influences our ways of thinking and our perceptions. Why do you think propaganda exists? When authors sexualize rape and make it seem that rape is ok, their audience internalizes it just like many yaoi readers have. I have seen so many people on this site get deeply offended when people call them out for liking a rape scene or shipping a rapist with their victim (just check out blood of the sun for that mess). The common response is that it's a kink and it's not real so it shouldn't matter. But part of me feels slightly disturbed that a whole swath of individuals now gains sexual gratification off characters going through traumatic (or what would be traumatic in the real world events) situations.
Also, I'm not quite sure what sphere's of the internet you live on, but I have seen PLENTY of discussion surrounding the portrayal of consent, not only in yaoi, but in porn in general. The FDS subreddit can be slightly problematic and aggressive at times, but their post about porn and the way it portrays women are sometimes the best. And yes I know that yaoi involves 2 men, but let's be real, the readers (who are mostly female) are supposed to self-insert themselves into one of the characters because one of them is almost always over feminized for a reason.
I know people who have said and I quote:
"If I saw a woman in the street getting raped I would kill that motherfucker with my bare hands but when it comes to hentai which is fictional I'm all for it" which I know it might sound vile to you but it is normal.
Because again as a fiction writer myself even though I do not do such works I do not think the people who make or consume that media get/are corrupted in any way shape or form because of it.
Whatever you say about portrayal of women readers as gay men is really not my thing and do not support the way of viewing this but I can tell that most who read it are women and teenage girls so I can not denny the viewing demographic....but I happen to know people of that demographic and trust me when I say nothing changed.
A fictional story from my point of view can be as beautiful or as disgusting as it wants because for the reason that it is FICTION.
I won't complain for yet another yaoi containing rape because: "oh my lawd think of the children" I will think: "oh my f again?"
I view it as unoriginality at this point and move on instead of rant about how cartoon rape supposedly corrupts young minds who at that age should know what right and wrong is despite the horrendous propaganda they view in a random site on the internet
I strictly can not compare real life trauma with fiction. If a work is not original or is trying to push messages I do not like then shit I just drop it.
I'm sorry for making you read this long but this is my moral standing. I do not mind if you don't agree you have your reasons and I have mine. Have a nice day
Bruh please instead of complaining just go read BL without this trope it's fiction that's litterally the point of it ITS fiction
Also there are lots of straight stories with the dumb ass female mc getting r word I don't see anyone complaining
If u don't like this go read western stuff don't read our media
Bottom and top are sexual positions, uke and seme are character tropes it isn't the same
And literally, a lot of people even have problems with the top and bottoms term and the uke-seme dynamic has been addressed multiple times by actually gay/queer people but again since yaoi fan base is mostly fujoshis they live for their raped uke falling in love lol, anyway i didn't get the last part of your reply like first of all why be so passive-aggressive and 2nd what does your race and nationality have to with anything lmaoo like how did you come up with that as an answer to my comment like where is the correlation lol that is such a twitter thing haha
╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Most people I know who read them are straight now idduno where you get your sources also the "white people" thing is weird how come you know ppl's race from a comment o_o"
Nothing is made for you in all honesty you take this too personaly. Yaoi is an art form aupreciated by all. If you are here to gate keep please just no..
i just want to read a story without rape. why is this so hard for authors to do.
