I've read the raws and I think he does like Kirin in his own way. He can't exacly feel emotions like normal people because he is a criminal type psychopath but Kirin is special to him and he feels like Kirin is the only person who can keep the beast inside him from running wild.
This chapter and him almost choking Kirin is one of the many examples of him giving in to his urges and almost messing up. He was confused by the case because it fuelled his murderous instincts but Kirin can always put him in his place (other people can't) and even though he can be really pushy and violent at times (not intentionally), the more time passes, the more he is tamed and controlled by Kirin, too. Their relationship is kind of twisted but I think they have a kind of dynamic neither of them could achieve with any other person. Kirin genuinely loves him in my opinion and he needs Kirin, too, which is perhaps the closest thing to love that a psychopath can feel. He keeps returning to Kirin throughout the story and he keeps giving in to Kirin's will, which makes him feel like he is controlled by Kirin and that bothers him a lot in the beginning (hence trying to push Kirin away several times).
Long story short, I don't think he's capable of genuinely loving anyone the way normal people do but whatever we call it in his case, I think it's the equivalent of love. I really liked the side stories, there's several more coming. ;) I hope you will, too.
