Damn that was a rollercoaster. Just to get things out the way, I didn’t like this ending. First of all, it is clear that Kurose’s love for Shirotane isn’t the same as the other way around.
Even from the confession, I felt some fakeness and ulterior motive from Kurose. And once his backstory was shown, I understood. Even if Kurose has genuine love for Shirotane, he rarely showcased it. He was so caught up on curing him to make up for that childhood experience. It didn’t feel mutual or genuine at all. It would’ve made more sense if Kurose left him at the end because Shirotane was doing better. There’s literally no instance that Kurose says that he TRULY loves him.
Second, I’m not a big fan of pushovers, unless they have some kind of redemption. I didn’t see that at all from Shirotane. Kurose toyed with him so much, it’s expected that in the climax Shirotane would block him out for some time.
I just feel that this relationship was doomed from the start. Shirotane needed someone to lean on, and Kurose wanted to help someone. It was a bit one sided (Shirotane).
But overall, this plot is a great idea and it kept you wondering what would happen. I prefer BL’s with a more serious undertone, so that made up for it.
Actually I felt the same as you too when I finish this. I was a little upset if I have to say honestly that Kurose is just making up for his mistake from childhood to Shiro, so I also feel like "Wait, there is no true love thing I find in his feeling!!".
