Yeah it's a slur. Back during the war people used to degrade Japanese people by calling them j**s. It is offensive.

yeah! during world war 2, many japanese americans who were who blamed for japan’s government were forced into camps and called “rat” and “j@p” there’s more context online
during world war 2, and after many white people didn’t want japanese americans in america, so they discriminated against them with signs like “no j@ps allowed”
yeah! many ppl don’t know which is why they make the mistake online shortening japanese to j*p !! the slur was used around world war 2 when japanese americans were blamed for japan’s war tactics and were discriminated aganist

it’s kinda annoying as an asian to see comments where people say j@p as a shorten word for japanese, even when you tell them it’s a slur they get defensive. it’s okay not to know, however when you take in asian entertainment like manga,, you should really educate yourself so you don’t accidentally say a slur or something offensive to asians. it’s just nice to know that you can enjoy sometime without being ignorant about it.
