Makes me think they are 2nd or 3rd cousins, which is far enough for a relationship
i don't know if it just me personally but we also call people who marry into the family or are just close friends relatives it's also different in Japan. and less frowned upon as long as it's not first cousins

I mean I don't find it strange because in some cultures, such as my own, marriage into relatives is pretty normal lol
