I personally think maybe they felt some form of love for each other.
Sangwoo definitely started to realize that he was becoming attached to Yoonbum. It’s hard to say that they for sure loved each other, but nonetheless there were definitely feelings.
And, you’re right. Yoonbum treated both that girl and Sangwoo as a obsession. With both Sangwoo, and that girl, he believed he had a “connection” with them. Yoonbum felt special and obsessed on that tiny detail.
Honeslty if Sangwoo did let Yoonbum get away, I bet Yoonbum would end up coming to find him again. Yoonbum would obsess about what Sangwoo was doing, and who he was with.
I will have to disagree. I do not believe that Sangwoo held an ounce of love for Bum, and I do not consider Bum's obsession with Sangwoo to be love. I also have an issue with even entertaining the idea that there was any form of romance present in this story.
Despite this, I do think it's interesting to see how different people interpret the story and their dynamic, and your text was very insightful and eloquent, so overall a fun read. It's the sort of thing that I've come to accept will always end with an "agree to disagree" conclusion, which is entirely fine.
I do want to add that my interpretation of their relationship most definitely comes from a very different place than yours, and perhaps many others. I am not a fan of this story, and I do assess is with a high degree of contempt, so it is understandable that my perception of their relationship, and whether or not there was any love to speak of, would clash with yours.
Yes, thats why he needed to “die” in the end, because his while World was focussed around Sangwoo, and after Sangwoo dies their was No one... so either he would end up being a stalker again or maybe something Else!

Alright so, I don’t completely disagree with you :) I love how you put this, but honestly toxic love or connection isn’t the same as actual love. I’m sure we all know there’s toxic and both healthy connections.

I honestly feel like this wasn’t love but an obsession or some unusual connection he had with Bum. To me the two seem to be clinging to each other because of the fact they’ve never really experienced the love they seeked for nor did they have any emotional validation from anyone. You know how sometimes no matter how toxic something is people would still cling to it because they’re scared of losing something again even if it’s unhealthy? And especially something they’ve never had and are finally experiencing. That’s what I possibly see in sangwoo. Like you might not love them but you still don’t want them to go because you don’t want to be alone again and especially because you guys did grow a connection, you cling to it even if it’s overwhelming for you. [this is an opinion and speaking from experience :)]

I completely agree it’s a form of obsession. Also when you say develop into love i honestly don’t think that’d be possible, it’d actually have been a toxic relationship for the two. I also see Stockholm syndrome in Bum but then again he had already had this obsession with Sangwoo before, so we don’t too much know.

this is true, and because there’re different forms the love, the only love it’d have been was toxic. I don’t believe he did love Bum I feel like he had some sort of connection, like I had said in the beginning, he didn’t want to let go of it. Also because he had seen his mom in bum before or maybe it was only just him reliving his trauma and sex would’ve possibly been a trigger to that trauma. There’s a lot to it, and what you said isn’t wrong. There can be many different takes on this.

The part where you talk about them “clinging together” kinda again remind me of Sangwoo’s parents and how they kept together even thought their was no “love” left/between the. And again I see Sangwoo, Bum and their realationship like how his parents acted, and I (idk) think maybe the two realationship are supposed to mirror eachother?
I say sangwoo has BPD which create the swinging emotion, action and how he acts.
And I said “it can still be or develop” because I think it really depend on how you see the realationship and how you analyze it, so for me I felt that their was some love (also the obsession) but I get 100% if others don’t really see that or something else:)

I agree there’s a possibility into developing but from my viewpoint it would’ve been toxic love because when I look at their relationship I kind of see nothing but obsession. And it was already too far and too damaged.

I should explain what I meant by love. I mean a strong bond like love, however I don’t think they had any feelings close to love.
It was obsession for the both of them. I don’t ship them together and I was happy when they died. Lol.
Honestly i wrote this some time ago, but i never really shared it. And I honestly dont really know what i want with it, other than share my opinion on this topic...their is probely a lot of grammar mistakes and my English isn’t the best, but i would love your opinion on this too... so yeah if you have some time feel free to read:)
The biggest and complicated question we all have is probely “did they love each other” and was even a part of the ending Q&A, but still we didn’t get a precise answer only that we will find the answer reading the last chapters. A chapter where we hear how Sangwoo was calling Bum names multiple times, until some Lady shut him up (and maybe killed him). Such action show that someone cares or have some feelings, is not normal to call out for someone you have no relation too, hate or feel any other kind of unpleasant feelings for (we can’t Deny that). And no - as one thought - its very unlikely he tried to call after his Mom.
We also see times when Sangwoo show some care for Bum, and especially in the last couples of chapters (Bum meet the girl, buy Ring, drop rat poison = Sangwoo anxiety) Sangwoo is scared of Bum leaving/cheat on/killing him. (and i like to compare Sangwoo to his father, because Bum is obviously like Sangwoo’s Mother and these scene show what happened to them. His mom cheated and later his father got poisoned, which is a reason for Sangwoo’s PTSD = fear of getting poisoned the same way) But we never get a true Clarifying on what is exactly going on in his head - so please share you thoughts on it -. We also have to remember both characters suffer from multiple mental illness which make them unstable, and they are both fictive characters made from Koogi’s mind, which make this topic more confused, by her ever giving a complete answer.
But Sangwoo isn’t the only one, but i still rarely see people question Yoonbum and his action and feelings. Maybe its because the Manga is from his point of view or maybe because we feel so sure in everything he do? In chapter 1 we see how he describes his feelings for Sangwoo. “Love”. Or maybe you cant really call a stalkers “love” a healthy or the real form. Especially after we hear about Bum and his past with the girl. In the past it looked a lot more like an obsession, but it never came as far as stalking her (like with Sangwoo). So the feelings he has from Sangwoo is very likely to be an obsession too, and yeah it can still be love or it developed into love later, but we can all agree that it wasn’t a healthy form of love.
So if i have to come to a conclusion, I would probely say that there is some form of love between them. And no it doesn’t have to be healthy, neither normal. But it still there, we still got to witness emotional and heartbreaking scene. We still got to witness scene where everything is madness and someone’s dying. Even if you are an abusing piece of shit, you can still be capable of loving someone. A lot of people abuse, torture or kill, but still love their partner, is awful i know, but it’s still happening, and sadly we can rarely do anything to stop it.
I’m gonna stop know, this became a little to long but i felt like sharing some (meaningless) thoughts. And i know not everyone have the same opinion so as i said before, don't attack me. I tried to stay as objective as possibly, and this is necessary not exactly how I see it so yeah...
