From what i remember from the spoilers at novelupdates it is due to erin's wish that is not fulfilled 100% (her having 5 children AHAHAHAHA)
didn't she in prison wish to return to the past?
Oh im sorry i don't really know the details but from the novel the original wish was done during their childhood years where the Erin's mom was still alive :/

1. Rowan wished to be loved thats his wish when they were a child. The mother helped him with that wish. Thats why it activated on chapter 1 where the duke saw Erin ( again as an adult ).
2. The light indicated that the wish cant be fulfilled as Erin died since Rowan wish was to be loved ( and it was Erin that was destined for it ) so it triggered it and brought them back to past.

2. what did the glowing light indicated before erin died ? what “activated” it ??
i was so frustrated and confused since i binge read this in a day ! my mind couldnt properly observed what was happening pls someone explain
