Why is it so unbelievable? He didn't have much time left because he is a titan shifter. Why would he want to start a relationship with Mikasa if in the end he was just going to die in a few years and leave her by herself to grieve even more than she already would have. He thought about her feelings, not his. He wanted her to move on and forget about him, even though he loved her.

i'm glad :) I'm just trying to clear up people's misunderstandings. The hate the ending of AOT is getting is ridiculous in my opinion. I don't think it could have ended any other way. Yes, there were some things not clearly explained, but it is still an alright finale for this masterpiece.
It's not unbelievable sweets. IN FACT. I totally understand why Mangaka-sensei did it the way he did. I'm speaking from the point of view of the 15 year old me who ever only saw Eren and Mikasa as brother and sister/bestfriends rather then romantic interest. And now as an adult, while I do understand Mangaka-sensei's poetic storytelling, the kid version of meself is still in denial. I don't need a run down of his thought process, sweets, I've stuck with this from it's publish date so I know the in's and out's of Eren Jaeger why he does the things he does. However Mikasa is a total cookie-cutter fan girl similar to Sakura, we don't actually see any character development in Mikasa at all which is why I can't not proudly pair those to up. Their romantic relationship is by far the most unrealistic type I've ever seen and reminds meh of Mirai Nikki IF I IZ BEING HONEST. JUST MAKES NON SENSE.
WHAT REALLY THROWS MY ASS FOR A LOOP IS THAT THERE WASN'T A SINGLE BLUSH SCENE OR HIDDEN SCENE WHAT SO EVER OF EREN EXPRESSING THE SLIGHTEST BIT OF INTEREST IN HER. Which I ain't gonna lie how it was wrapped up made it tragically poetic, WHICH I RESPECT!!!
But if I were to be fresh brand new reading and watching from beginning to end like a new born baby, this series again?! I would not be CONVINCED that Eren actually ROMANTICALLY CARED for Mikasa.

Just so you know, there WERE a few blush scenes in the manga and anime, I don't know if you just didn't notice them or what. Eren always liked Mikasa, not just in a brother/sister way.
