It's been awhile since I read their novel, but if I remember correctly, high society didn't really make it a big deal because they were not blood-related!
As for the brothers, some of us has figured out that Erich had feelings for Hari so he decided to accept it and backed down because he knew he couldn't win against Eugene;) Cabel actually had the most reaction, he had to get it through his head first when he found out, he was the only one who genuinely thought of Hari as his little sister and that's why he acts awkward whenever he sees Hari or Eugene. He later accepts it as well though~
