Em can someone explain some stuff to me? I'm really confused about her family. She is an illegitimate child and a maid's daughter, so the wife of her father isn't her mother, but she looks the same, she even said that the mother abused her? And her sister is also an illegitimate child so she isn't the daughter of the wife cuz she didn't say mom in a chapter but the father loves the littlesister? I'm really confused. That both Nieva and her sister inherit their father looks, his genes must be very strong.
As for the abuse? I think her mother extorted the father for money on child support or not to say a word to society that he had an illegitimate child with a maid. Also its plausible she hated Nivea for looking so much like the man she maybe loved? Or who threw her away?
Not sure the nature of the father and mother relationship.
And I think later on the father took Nivea in to use her as a political tool. Since he did have plans for her to marry the Duke but I think he also just wanted to get rid of her but that it also benefited him.
As for the younger sister, maybe she is a legitimate daughter but her mother and wife of their father died during childbirth.
Or the father just really loved the younger sisters mother

If I am not mistaken, MC's mother was maid. When she got pregnant with MC she forced the father to marry her or she will make a fuss. He did, so now he is in a marriage he did not want and now everyone knows about the maid's pregnancy. This causes him to hate the mother and, since her conception caused it, the MC. He took a mistress and she got pregnant and had Rubiel. Since he actually likes the mistress, who was a lesser noble and quiet about everything, he loves Rubiel.
MC's mother mistreated her because she saw her as a burden after the marriage.

Well, a reason to not hate Rubiel is that she didn't choose to be the child that Nivea's father cherished just like Nivea didn't choose to be neglected. I understand the feeling of jealousy/resentment, but Rubiel shouldn't be punished for her father's actions.
