Based on my own understanding the painting was made by the famous mysterious painter named 'Kyle'. It worth thousands of money so Mildred decided to appraise it and sell it. And she also followed the suggestion of the Count to appraise all paintings in their house to have more money. Lily only draw soke mark in order for the painting not to get swapped while appraising.(You know to avoid modus or scams.) So that they could easily tell which one is theirs.
