Oh god, why her!?

LallaLa March 7, 2016 12:53 am

Hi guys~~
Just asking this out of curiosity and it sounds like a interesting question. Do you guys have any author who you usually avoid reading or just think "oh god, her/him"
I do not wish to insult anyone, so just take this as a simple question for personal taste. In my case would be Minami Haruka, Ootsuki Miu and Hoshino Lily. There are more but I can't remember their names
( ̄∇ ̄"). These three just left a bad taste in my mouth, but I don't like their style nor the plot
(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ. What about you all? Or am I the only one?

I have a love/hate thing for Hwang Mi Ri (non yaoi, I know...sorry). She churns out manwha like a Ford assembly line. There's something to be said for quality over quantity. Nearly all of her stories can be summarized: Main girl is tough/mean and beats people up, vain, usually vulgar and is either considered really pretty with a bad personality or really ugly. Hot guy A is nice...perfect guy and would do anything for main female. Hot guy B is an @$$ who is always mean to main female. Main female somehow goes from this incredibly strong girl to this damsel in distress in 2 seconds flat. And let's not forget to introduce hot girl B who hates MC, is after hot guy B, and does her best to create havoc before Hot Guy B realizes he's fated to be with MC.
Don't get me wrong, I have read some of her work that I adore. But after reading a few, I really had to start questioning the Korean school system and youth (how many gangs are there in Korea? Sheesh...and Korean females in these manga are more terrifying than non-fujoshi in a Yaoi).
For BL....hmmm...I've learned to look at the cover art and comments before delving in (because sometimes the summaries are misleading). No particular author stands out as someone I tend to avoid (although there are some I avoid unless I am in the mood to have my heart twisted). Some (like Harada) are hit and miss...I might have to read one or two from that author and go wth did I just read before I come across a gem by the same author. So I can't give them up entirely...I just know with certain authors to open with caution (yeah that drama/psychological tag is a good warning indicator lol)
As for favorite author, it is Nakamura Yoshiki. Not as many works, but more depth to them

This reminds me of a conversation I had today. My friend's teenage niece is living with her grandmother. The niece loooooves Black Butler (and is a big fan of manga/anime in general. I'm so proud). Her grandmother gives her a hard time because she thinks it's a bad influence...dark and evil. My comment to my friend was that I should let the grandma see some of the stuff I read (she'll think Sebastien is a saint once she reads Attack on Titan). Now you have given me even better ammunition! We have plenty of "classics" that are mandatory reading and quite dark/gory (and yes, I loved Poe btw...could that explain what's wrong with me? But I also love Tolkein...well, that definitely explains it).

Yeah, i also don't like Minami Haruka. I just don't like how she draws her character, like it's just....nah.

Haha, or any classic literature. I mean Shakespeare and the Odyssey dealt with all kinds of dark themes. I don't think I read one lighthearted book for high school. Couldn't they give us something more comedic for us sensitive souls? ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Well, I feel kind of bad cause I ignored the question to lecture someone who answered it. So I will answer.
I try to avoid reading Minami Haruka. Her artwork turns me off. It's not bad art, but the guys look too perfect, like Barbie dolls. I can't even describe them as Ken dolls because their features are so feminine. And I prefer manly characters, so Minami-sensei's work isn't for me. I admit I haven't actually read anything by her.
I sure there're more works I didn't like, but I usually click out of those right away. Must be memory loss from manga trauma.

Oh come on, you have opinions about cheating so yeh her work sucks and shouldn't be popular. @Anonymous

P.S. I'm not writing this to sound angry or anything, I'm just trying to make a point (probably won’t succeed cuz I’m not the best at expressing myself), and also this is my opinion so feel free to disagree. (●'◡'●)ノ
I think that just because you don't like a specific thing it doesn't automatically mean that the manga sucks. For example, my most hated manga ever is Complex by Manda Ringo, I hate that thing so much I get pissed off every time I remember it. However, even I can't tell people it sucks and that no one should read it, because it doesn't and anyone who wants to read it should. There's a difference between *I don't like it*, and *this manga has a bad plot, bad characters (not in terms of the characters themselves being bad, but them being one dimensional, badly written, etc.) and overall horrible themes*.
As for what is/should be popular, I’m sorry to say no one person can decide what gets to be popular. Somethings just work well for a lot of people and not for a select few. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

haha. well, sometimes trolls needs watering (=・ω・=)

anyway, to answer the thread question, the mangaka i dislike is chi-ran. it's a combination of lack of skills both in story and artwork. i'm not someone who got attached to the uke or something so i read anything and everything and have the tendency to like the dark ones as long as it's done beautifully. i'm a big seinen reader so i am fine with even the most unique art styles.

as for caste heaven, i think sexual tension contributes more as to why this manga is popular. because really, that's just what being a fujoshi is. it's all about the smut.

I think when the authors follow a simple line with characters without changing them, their mangas/manwhas start to get rather boring and cliche. No one wants to read about the same people in different stories.
But manwhas and mangas usually exagerating, so the same way Japan isn't dangerous like those mangas about gangs, or how there are not that many perverts there as some manga makes it appear, I bet Korea isn' all that you read in a fiction.

^ this. it's mostly exaggeration, the same thing with soap operas, since hwang mi ri (the same with han yu rang) manhwas are like the chick lit of korea. funny thing is, even if her works are either a hit or a miss for me, i still read them like a fool who never learns her lesson.

You know, I was talking about any and all authors who usually tend to put a similar personality in many characters. I have never read Hwang mi ri so I can't really tell, but I would not say I am exagerating since some authors do that. Maybe because they like the characters or because they simple want to.I am basically just saying it is rather boring when they do that

Lol i totally feel you about Hwang Mi Ri, she was the one that got me into manwhas but shit got old really fast, I mean I could predict every damn thing that was going to happen in her story. Descendant of a dynasty though has different art and formula to it....i still can't believe it's the same author.

i know. (๑❛ᴗ❛๑) i'm just picking up the topic from the previous convo (that you quoted) since it's similar in that way. i've read almost if not all hwang mi ri and some han yu rang and i'm saying that yeah... i almost see them as some sort of incarnation of the other if not for the different hairstyle. what i mean when i said exaggeration is the delinquent trope which is present in this author's work and almost every shoujo manhwa and mangas

Oh, I see, sorry for being slow ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~
Yeah, some authors like to exaggerate in stuff like gangs or bullying. But I understand when you said "but I still read them like a fool" or something, since I still read Minase Masara or Yamamoto Kotetsuko mangas, and many of them are similar in some ways (mainly the uke apperance).
But there are some manwhas that lots of characters have a similar hairstyle, and I don't know who is ming and who is lan or whatever

    Ichigo March 8, 2016 5:06 am
I only read under grand hotel from that author, but yeah, I understand. Like minase masara, some of them look like twins (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜 LallaLa

There's contrast between the characters who are in the same manga. But she has a habit of carrying her designs for main characters over to other mangas and they end up looking like carbon copies of one another, like it's one giant reincarnation manga series that doesn't connect at all. Even when she changes the ethnicities of her characters, they end up looking extremely close in design.

Yep, that's what I meant. Or Yamamoto Kotetsuko, some look very alike if you read some of her other works. But in their defense, it's probably really difficult to come up with a new face design (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜

Ah yes, in Caste Heaven the smut's definitely the main attraction for me and many other readers, not the violence. Sorry, that part wasn't clear in my rant. I meant that in general violent TV shows, movies, and the like are all the rage (even more so than before) and tend to be the most popular nowadays. So that was me talking in a broader sense rather than focusing on the yaoi community.
Hurray, a fellow seinen fan! I just can't get enough of the genre.
